Let’s Ask Your Appearance…


How you present yourself to the world can have a profound effect on the relationships that you form, the opportunities that you are afforded, and the outcomes that you produce. While your physical appearance should matter a  lot less than what’s “on the inside”, people judge books by their covers each and every day.

You do it too, so get off of that high horse (and tell him to lay off the weed; horses should stick to oats).

One of the oldest presuppositions in NLP is that  you “Cannot not communicate”.

This refers to the idea that you are communicating something at absolutely all times. This communication is largely of the nonverbal variety, which accounts for ninety-three percent of your message at any given moment. Your posture, facial expressions, tonality and rate of speech, and even your rate of breathing communicate to others on an unconscious level. This is something that I will be covering in great detail in my upcoming product “CharisMagic: Becoming the most Likable, Attractive, and Influential Person in the Room”. Aside from these more subtle nuances of your projected experience, one of the single most loud-mouthed components of your overall message is your physical appearance.

By this I mean the obvious, the physical condition that you keep yourself in, but this also encompasses everything from your vehicle, to your hairdo (something I take very seriously), to the clothes that you choose to put on.

Consider what message you are sending to others when you step out of the house:

Are you dressing based on how you feel in the moment, or based on how you would dress if you felt the way that you really want to feel?

Are you presenting yourself in a manner that you believe to be in line with your current financial situation, or in line with where you aspire to be?

Note that the latter question does not imply that you must shell out loads of cash on expensive clothes that you can’t really afford in an effort to impress others, it simply inquires as to whether or not you are dressing “well”, or look like you should be posted up on a corner, smelling like urine and Jameson, and asking passersby for change. Dressing well does not necessarily mean putting down a ton of money on clothing, it simply means being mindful of what you are wearing and, more importantly, how you are wearing it.

Others will no doubt view you as more interesting, attractive, effective, and capable of adding value to their lives in some manner if you present yourself in such a manner well before you open your mouth.

I’m certainly no stranger to appearance-based judgement. Many who see me in a simple tee shirt and shorts quickly form an opinion of me that, more often than not, is wildly inaccurate (ok, maybe “wildly” is a bit much). I’ve been known to shatter a stereotype or two once the JP gospel begins to exit my sensual lips however, and have boasted a list of “unlikely” clients including:

  • Middle-aged conservative women
  • Law Enforcement Personnel and Agencies
  • Tech Firms
  • Corporate Organizations
  • School Systems

It’s no secret that the dichotomy that exists between the stereotypes associated with my appearance, and my ability to add value to individuals and organizations in a variety of professional capacities adds to my marketability (I’d love to say that had been deliberate), but the fact is, my ability to be a “chameleon” of sorts, in terms of style and the way that I carry and present myself, has allowed me to establish massive amounts of rapport with an extremely diverse client base. This rapport has served as the key that has granted me access to the platforms on which I have been able to deliver my message or render my services.

I cannot over-emphasize the importance of your nonverbal communication.

You’re always “saying” something, even if you’re just sitting or standing there quietly.

Being conscious of this communication is something that I work on with clients heavily in my Personal Coaching for the purposes of everything from success in dating, to more effective interrogation or selling.

I encourage you to check out Ryan’s product. He is a great guy with a great message, and he knows his shit when it comes to style. This is a guy who walks the walk; he’s hard to get on the phone since he’s steady in Vegas with his beautiful girlfriend, reaping the rewards of the path of success that he’s chosen, teaching others the ways of the young, successful entrepreneur, but I don’t hold that against him (if you’re reading this Ryan, seriously…. I left like ten messages… you know I’m needy…).

Take action today and resolve to make a change in the way in which you present yourself to the world. The results will be highly rewarding, and you will be thankful that you possess the type of character that separates you from the herd.
